Pahalgam Terror Attack: 28 Tourists Killed in Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley – PM Modi Cuts Short Saudi Trip

April 23, 2025
Srinagar – In a horrific turn of events, at least 28 tourists lost their lives and more than 20 others were injured in a gruesome terror attack in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. The serene hillscape, often dubbed “Mini-Switzerland of India,” was turned into a warzone when terrorists opened fire on unsuspecting civilians enjoying their summer getaway.
According to official sources, heavily armed militants—suspected to be operatives of The Resistance Front (TRF)—ambushed a group of tourists with automatic weapons and explosives. Panic and chaos erupted as gunfire echoed through the valley, shattering the region’s fragile peace and tourist-friendly reputation.
🛑 Tourists Targeted
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of horror as families were caught off guard during routine sightseeing. Most victims were from outside Jammu and Kashmir, including visitors from Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu. Rescue operations were launched immediately, but the terrain made evacuation challenging.
🇮🇳 PM Modi Reacts, Cuts Short Saudi Trip
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Saudi Arabia for high-level diplomatic talks, condemned the attack in strong terms and cut short his visit to return to India. “This cowardly assault on innocent lives will not go unpunished. My heart goes out to the families of the victims,” he said in an official statement.
🔍 Security Tightened, Manhunt Underway
The Jammu and Kashmir police, supported by paramilitary forces, have launched an intensive manhunt for the attackers. Preliminary intelligence suggests the attackers had received cross-border backing. Security across tourist hubs and pilgrimage routes in Kashmir has been significantly ramped up.
🌍 National and Global Condemnation
The attack has triggered widespread condemnation from Indian leaders and the global community. Opposition parties have demanded stricter counter-terror measures and accountability over the intelligence lapse.
